Vogue’s 2025 Best Dressed list is here: new icons, surprise returns, and the big names who didn’t make the cut.
Newsweek Exclusive Feature
Being named on Vogue’s Best Dressed list remains one of the fashion world’s highest accolades.
With the release of its expanded 2025 edition—featuring 55 entries—the list reveals evolving tastes and shifting celebrity power dynamics, spotlighting the new fashion stars to keep an eye on.
The influence of the list, which includes actors, musicians, models, designers, athletes, and even heads of religions, stretches beyond fashion. Among the most surprising additions is Pope Leo XIV, the newly elected pontiff known for reasserting a flair for papal vestments long absent from the Vatican since Pope Benedict XVI.
His inclusion was not only sartorial but symbolic. Vogue named his debut appearance as pope as his standout look when he wore, “a red satin mozzetta cape and wine-red, gold-embroidered stole paired with a cross pendant on a gold silk cord.”
Returning from 2024’s list are Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, Colman Domingo, Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Greta Lee, Jacob Elordi and Chloë Sevigny—each maintaining their relevance with consistent red-carpet statements and chic off-duty looks.
Rihanna, long a mainstay of the list, earned her 2025 mention by announcing her third pregnancy on the steps of the Met Gala in a corseted Marc Jacobs skirt-suit.
Who Didn’t Make It to the 2025 List
Meanwhile, a number of 2024 honorees and big names were notably absent in the 2025 lineup, including Zendaya, Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Corrin, Charli XCX, Hunter Schafer, Lewis Hamilton, Angelina Jolie, Demi Moore, Daniel Craig, FKA twigs and fan favorites from Wicked, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Among the 2025 newcomers were high-fashion provocateurs and cultural influencers such as Jenna Ortega, Doechii, Myha’la, Clairo, Teyana Taylor, and Addison Rae.

Political and institutional figures also earned a spot, including U.S. secretary of the interior-turned-gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland, Zohran Mamdani's artist wife, Rama Duwaji, and former first lady Michelle Obama.
Designers and stylists also took their place on the list, this time through their personal looks. Miuccia Prada and Haider Ackermann were recognized for consistently serving style inspiration in the current fashion landscape.
The 2025 list’s eclecticism—from avant-garde pop stars to downtown gallerists—reflects Vogue’s desire to broaden the definition of influence.
But it was Pope Leo XIV’s presence that perhaps most dramatically underscored this year’s shift.
His choice of vestments—“meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail”—caught the eye of editors as much for their symbolism as their silhouette.
Vogue also noted his efforts to modernize the Church’s image, including inviting longtime fashion stars Monica Bellucci and Cate Blanchett to the Vatican.
